CineGrain provides you with the tools you need to get that coveted filmic grain look. CineGrain has a Personal, Professional, and Indie Filmmaking collections of clips. These clips come in 2k and 1080p, jammed packed up to 400 different clips depending on your purchase package. These clips come shipped to on a small USB SSD hard drive that fits in the palm of your hands. Great for portability.
CineGrain is a fantastic way to get the desired film look without banging your head against the wall. CineGrian also save a great deal of time, as you can get your desired look in a matter of moments without the need to jump into other suites or use several video layers. The addition of 2k support is great for those of you working with RED cameras or are finishing 2k to later be transferred. CineGrain comes in different packages depending on your budget for either Personal, Professional or Indie.
The Cinegrain package includes 1080p and 2k ProRes video clips ranging in length from a few frames (film splices) up to 45 seconds (film grain). Packages range from 50 clips to 400 clips clearly organized by category:
Update: At 5:17 I state that the Dirt-Fixed 35mm footage is only available in the Professional package. This is incorrect. Many Dirt-Fixed clips are available in several of their packages.
This is a pack that contains 35mm, 16mm, and 8mm film grain, but the 35mm is a stand-out way of giving your footage a pulpy, cinematic look. Lay these files over your clips on the timeline and experiment with the blending modes to get the desired results.
The presentation of the package is very nice -- not only is the hard drive branded, but the clips are neatly arranged into appropriate directories (35mm, 16mm, headers, etc.), each of which has its own unique icon. There are a few versions of the package, aimed to appeal to different classes of production (and budget). The Indie Filmmaker Collection offers 50 clips at 1080p resolution for $299, and 100 clips at both 2K and 1080p for $499 (this is what I tested). This indie collection is licensed for projects with a budget up to $50k; for budgets up to $100k there's the IndiePro collection (150 or 280 clips for $999 or $1499, respectively) and the Professional license is a 300-clip collection of ProRes 444 clips for... well, more than most of us can afford. But the $3,999 unlimited license may certainly make sense for commercial production houses.
However, I am sure that as ugly as we think digital chroma-noise is today, it will be cherished as THE vintage look in the future. 50 years from now, people will probably buy 4K$ packages of chroma-noise plug-ins ... ;)
FILMLOOKS.COM has better scans and much much cheaper than Cinegrain. I bought their film grain collection for only 14.95$ The dirt and scratches collection which has many many files is freaking amazing and i only paid it 29.95$. You should all check this out because this is the real deal: 1e1e36bf2d
