Plot Summary
The film is set in the year 2169, where people are genetically engineered to stop aging on their 25th birthday. However, they also have a timer on their forearm that shows how much time they have left to live. Time has become the universal currency, transferred directly between people or stored in capsules. The country is divided into zones based on wealth and time; the poorest zone is Dayton, where people rarely have more than 24 hours on their clocks, and the richest zone is New Greenwich, where people can afford to live for centuries.

Will Salas (Timberlake) is a factory worker who lives in Dayton with his mother Rachel (Olivia Wilde). One night, he rescues a wealthy man named Henry Hamilton (Matt Bomer) from a gang of time thieves led by Fortis (Alex Pettyfer). Hamilton reveals to Will that he is over 100 years old and tired of living in a world where the rich hoard time while the poor die young. He transfers all but five minutes of his time to Will before timing out and dying. Will is shocked by this act of generosity and decides to use the time to take his mother to New Greenwich.
However, he is pursued by Raymond Leon (Cillian Murphy), the leader of the Timekeepers, a police-like force that maintains the balance of time in the society. Leon suspects that Will killed Hamilton and stole his time. Will manages to escape to New Greenwich, where he meets Philippe Weis (Vincent Kartheiser), a powerful businessman who owns most of the time banks, and his daughter Sylvia (Seyfried), who is bored with her immortal life. Will impresses Sylvia with his gambling skills at a casino and she invites him to a party at her father's mansion.
At the party, Leon confronts Will and tries to arrest him, but Will takes Sylvia hostage and escapes with her in her father's car. He contacts Weis and demands a ransom of 1,000 years for Sylvia's return. Weis refuses to pay and orders Leon to track them down. Will and Sylvia go on the run across the zones, pursued by Leon and Fortis. Along the way, they witness the harsh realities of the time-based system and begin to fall in love with each other.
They decide to join forces with a group of rebels led by Will's old friend Borel (Johnny Galecki), who are planning to rob Weis' time banks and distribute time to the poor. They succeed in stealing millions of years from Weis' vaults and cause a massive disruption in the economy. They also free hundreds of workers from a factory owned by Weis, giving them enough time to live as they please.
However, their actions also attract more attention from Leon and Fortis, who eventually catch up with them. In a final showdown, Will kills Fortis in a duel and Sylvia shoots Leon in self-defense. They discover that Leon has only minutes left on his clock, as he was not paid by Weis for his services. They try to save him by giving him some of their time, but he dies before they can do so.
Will and Sylvia realize that they have also run out of time and are left with only seconds to live. They run towards each other and share a kiss before their clocks expire. However, they are revived by Borel's wife Greta (Yaya DaCosta), who gives them some of her time. They thank her and decide to continue their mission of spreading time to the masses 0efd9a6b88
